Abidjan – (from the special envoy) – The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, held a conversation on Friday with Angolan citizens residing in Cotê d’Ivoire, from whom he learned about their experience in this country.

Among those present, members of the family of the then leader of Unita, Jonas Savimbi, stand out, especially one of his daughters, Isabel Savimbi Sacaita.

Speaking to the press, she said it was an honor to have spoken with the Angolan Head of State, to whom he conveyed the difficulties faced by young people, especially the lack of employment.

According to the interlocutor, who came to represent the community residing in Burkina Faso, also served by the Angolan diplomatic mission in Cotê d'Ivoire, the meeting with the President was good and, as a recent graduate in communications, her desire is to have a job, even if it is in Angola.

She said she also conveyed concerns related to the security problem in Burkina Faso, motivated by terrorism.

Having lived abroad for many years, she praised President João Lourenço's willingness to welcome the community.

She expressed satisfaction with the fact that the government had recently approved the creation of the Jonas Savimbi Foundation, as the organization will have nothing to do with politics, but rather develop philanthropic activities.

She stated that she notices positive changes in Angola's development, pointing to the improvement of the energy sector as an example.

Maquengo Augusto, senior officials at the African Development Bank, also participated in the meeting, who said he had delivered a document to the Head of State setting out his vision for the country's development.

For his part, the Angolan ambassador to Cotê d’Ivoire, Domingos Pacheco, considered the meeting memorable, as it allowed this rapprochement with the Angolan community.

International relations student Pedro Mbala said he conveyed to the President the need to further promote Angolan culture in Cotê d’Ivoire, aiming for greater rapprochement between the two peoples.

The President of the Republic concluded on Friday a 48-hour visit to Cotê d'Ivoire with the aim of relaunching bilateral cooperation. ART/DOJ
