Luanda - Accelerating agriculture, industry and the fight against hunger and poverty are among the suggestions presented at Saturday's meeting of the Economic and Social Council (CES), the consultative body to President of the Republic, João Lourenço.
Speaking to journalists at the end of the session, CES coordinator Octávio Serra Van-Dúnem said he hoped that the "guidelines" presented could "help the President and the Executive to find immediate solutions".
These are solutions for the country's socio-economic development aimed to counter the difficulties facing the Angolan economy, which have a negative impact on the lives of families and companies.
However," he added, " there are programmes to be developed along the axes suggested that fall short of the needs and, above all, the expectations of the population.
Octávio Serra Van-Dúnem said that the proposals are contained in documents and presentations made during the meeting, and emphasised that the intention is to speed up the implementation of these actions.
Among the lines of action, he noted that one is linked to the methodologies used by government institutions in implementing programmes and projects, and others to the issue of speed.
He said that other important aspects could arise, namely human capital, the training of human capital and the enhancing of actions that are often done without also taking into account the opinion of the citizen.
VAT reduction
As for the reduction in Value Added Tax (VAT), from 14 to 07 per cent, under debate in the National Assembly, Octávio Serra Van-Dúnem said that once the measure is put into practice it will ease the situation for companies.
He added that if the reduction in the Value Added Tax rate is approved, it will be welcomed by the Economic and Social Council.
Created in 2020 by the President of the Republic, the CES is a space for dialogue with society. The consultative body proposes solutions on the country's socio-economic situation. AFL/AL/ADR/DAN/NIC
