Bailundo - The advisor of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS), Charles Mampasi, expressed on Thursday, in the city of Huambo, his institution’s confidence that peace will be achieved in the Great Lakes Region, with diplomatic efforts by the Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço.
The official was speaking at the end of the visit to the kingdom of Bailundo, Province of Huambo (centre), carried out by the Commission of the United Nations Permanent Consultative Committee in charge of Security Issues in Southern Africa (UNSAC).
The diplomat said they were persuaded and resentful by the utterences of the king of Bailundo, Ekuikui VI, about the difficulties and conflicts registered in the Great Lakes Region, as well as by the intention of seeking peace for this area of the African continent.
He highlighted the efforts of the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, who is working to ensure mediation on behalf of the African Union, in the Great Lakes region, between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda, so that peace can reign in this part of Africa.
Charles Mampasi said that the organization's intention is to seek peace, reconciliation and reconstruction of these countries, as reigns in Angola, whose tranquility and sustainable development were witnessed by the ECCAS.
In turn, the director of the Culture, Tourism, Youth and Sports office in the province of Huambo, Jeremias Chissanga, said that Angolan culture is already considered a reference on the African continent, after showing diplomatic efforts and the insistent search for peace through dialogue.
He explained that, currently, Angolan diplomacy is working and sharing experiences of conflict resolution in this model based on reconciliation and the appreciation of human values, and then embark on a process of promoting the sustainable development of communities.
Jeremias Chissanga said that the visitors were enthusiastic and promised to take our experiences, mainly to countries that had conflicts and then were unable to restructure.
The Great Lakes Region of the African continent covers Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique, where Angola addresses peacemaking and conflict resolution efforts based on concrete experiences.
ECCAS is a Central African community created in Libreville (Gabon) in 1981, with the purpose of promoting cooperation and self-sustainable development, mainly economic.
Located in the Central Highlands of Angola, Huambo Province has an estimated population of 2.8 millions inhabitants, according to 2024 forecasts by the National Statistics Institute.
