Luanda - The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, said Friday, in Luanda, that the province of Benguela will gain many investments with the ongoing project of the Lobito Corridor, located in that region of the country.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the new Vice-Governor of Benguela for the Political, Social and Economic sector, Cátia Francisca Gertrudes Tchimbinga Cachuco, the Head of the Executive Power reiterated that, with the start of operation of that Corridor, the province will not only gain investments in the transport and logistics sectors, but as consequence other areas of the local economy will also benefit from this mega project that is the Lobito Corridor.

From this perspective, João Lourenço recommended that the newly appointed official can help the provincial governor and other entities to implement the government's programs and seek to resolve, as best as possible, the problems affecting the populations of the province of Benguela.

“Benguela, like others, is an important province and today, for a reason, there is much talk about the Lobito Corridor, which begins precisely in this region”.

“Therefore, pay special attention to this fact”, said the Head of State during his brief speech at the event.

Lobito Corridor, also known as the Benguela Railway (CFB), represents a transport route that connects the African interior to the Atlantic Ocean, including landlocked nations such as Zambia and the DRC.

The Lobito Corridor serves as a transport route that starts at the port with the same name (Lobito), in the city of Benguela, to the interior of Angola and reaches the mineral-rich regions of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Zambia.

It is not only a trade route, but also a vital gateway that opens these countries to global markets, facilitating the export of minerals, agricultural products and manufactured goods.

The advantages of using railways, such as the Benguela Railway, for the transport of minerals are many.

Railways are more efficient at moving large volumes over long distances compared to trucks. They offer a higher load capacity per trip, are more fuel efficient per tonne of cargo and have a lower risk of accidents and breakdowns, thus reducing the likelihood of delays and damage to cargo.

In addition, trains are a more environmentally friendly mode of transport and make fewer carbon emissions per tonne of cargo.

Rails also play a significant role in reducing road congestion, leading to faster and more reliable delivery times.
