Luanda - The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, returned to Luanda in the early evening of Friday, after a working visit of a few hours to Botswana, as part of his rotating presidency of the Southern African Development Community (SADC).

In Gaborone, the Angolan statesman had contacts with the management and staff of the SADC Secretariat, at the organization's headquarters, before meeting with his counterpart from Botswana, Mokgweetsi Masisi.

At the SADC headquarters, President João Lourenço unveiled the plaque that symbolizes his visit to the headquarters of the regional organization and toured the various compartments of the institution.

During the meeting with President Masisi, the two statesmen reviewed the state of bilateral relations, among other issues.

They also took the opportunity to assess the level of implementation of the decisions taken during João Lourenço's last official visit to Botswana, the first of its kind by an Angolan head of state to that country.

Angola assumed the rotating presidency of SADC, for the period 2023-2024, on August 17 of last year, during the 43rd Summit of Heads of State and Government.

At the time, he defined as priorities for his mandate as president of SADC actions aimed at valuing human capital, issues of peace and stability, as well as diversifying sources of financing, with the aim of implementing regional integration projects.

Traditionally, the acting presidents of SADC visit the organization's headquarters, during their term of office, to obtain an assessment of the work carried out by the Secretariat, in order to facilitate the fulfillment of the regional integration agenda and issue the necessary guidelines.
