Luanda – Angola and Egypt signed two Memoranda of Understanding  (MOU) this Wednesday in Luanda, as part of strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries, existing since 1976.

The two countries agreed to cooperate in the fields of Security and Public Order.

The Legal instrument was signed by ministers of the Interior of Angola Eugénio Laborinho and of Foreign Affairs of Egypt Sameh Shoukry, in the presence of the Angolan President João Lourenço and his Egyptian counterpart, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

The two countries also signed Memorandum of Understanding on Technical Assistance on Groundwater, signed by the ministers of Energy and Water of Angola, João Baptista Borges, and Foreign Affairs of Egypt Sameh Shoukry.

Angola-Egypt Cooperation

On March 26, 1987, Angola and Egypt formalised the signing of the General Agreement on Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation in Luanda.

Both countries have shown interest in increasing cooperation in areas such as the Economy, Trade and Industry, Education, Higher Education and Technical-Vocational Training, Energy and Water, Banking and Finance, Agriculture and Fisheries.

Angola and Egypt are also engaged in preparing the first session of the Bilateral Commission, which should assess cooperation and establish the process for implementing the legal instruments in force.

The Bilateral Commission meeting will enable to identify new areas of cooperation, in view of the potential of Angola and Egypt.

Egyptian companies were among the first to provide "important support" for the Angolan Executive Programme to combat Covid-19, having provided various biosafety equipment, hospital consumables and a value of 200 million kwanzas. NE/AL/ADR/TED/NIC
