Luanda – The Broad Convergence for the Salvation of Angola Electoral Coalition (CASA-CE) on Sunday defended greater empowerment of women based on the construction of a more equal and fair society during their election broadcast on Public Television of Angola (TPA).

According to the coalition’s presidential candidate, Manuel Fernandes, the bet on this specific group of the society aims to make it increasingly free from discrimination and mistreatment to which many of them are subjected, with emphasis on female street vendors.

The politician added that the goal is to encourage a broad participation of women at all levels of public administration, observing the principles of equal conditions in the filling of positions.

Through a decree, the Angolan Executive is committed to the empowerment of women and defines the national policy for gender equality and equity and its respective advocacy strategy and resource mobilization for implementation and monitoring, including the local development and poverty alleviation program.

Angola has a growing and mostly young population, between 0 and 25 years old, of this group female represents 51 percent.

Placed at position 5 on the ballot paper, CASA-CE is a political force integrated by the Angolan Majority Free Alliance Party (PALMA), Support Party for Democracy and Development of Angola - Patriotic Alliance (PADDA-AP), Angolan Pacific Party (PPA), National Party for the Salvation of Angola (PNSA) and the Democratic Party for the Progress of Angola National Alliance (PDP-ANA).

It was created on April 3, 2012 and its first participation in general elections was in 2012, when it elected eight deputies to Parliament, while in 2017 it obtained 16 deputies, corresponding to 9.45 percent of the valid votes.

MPLA, UNITA, CASA-CE, PRS, FNLA, PHA, APN and P-NJANGO are running for theAugust 24 general elections, the fifth to take place in Angola following those held in 1992, 2008, 2012 and 2017.

Luanda is the largest electoral ward in the country with 4.6 million voters (37%) from over 14 million registered in the electoral process nationwide, official data show.
