Luanda - Angolan Head of State João Lourenço highlighted Friday the importance of Brazilian support in Angola's socio-economic development, with emphasis on the technology and knowledge sectors.

Speaking at the closing of the Angola-Brazil Economic Forum, President João Lourenço underlined that in the country Brazilian technology is evident in emblematic works of public infrastructure, as well as in the increase in production and supply of food products.

The Angolan President also stated that, in terms of the Angolan market, Brazilian technology is also present in the provision of health services and in the technical and professional training of young nationals.

At the forum, which was attended by 500 businessmen, including Brazilians and Angolans, João Lourenço reaffirmed Angola's commitment to creating a better business environment with a focus on attracting private investors.

"We count on Brazilian direct private investment in the Angolan economy to transform Angola's economic potential into real wealth, create jobs and prosperity", he said.

In his speech, the Angolan Head of State reiterated the invitation to businessmen from the South American nation to invest fearlessly in the Angolan market.

The Government, continued the holder of the Executive Branch, is particularly interested in seeing Brazilian investors investing in agribusiness, in the tanning industry, automobile, tractors, implements and fertilizers.

The Angolan statesman also expressed interest in seeing businessmen in Brazil invest in the pharmaceutical industry, production of solar panels, wood processing, tourism and the real estate industry.

Cooperation between Angola and Brazil began on June 11, 1980, with the signing of the Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation Agreement.

Under this agreement, the two countries developed bilateral cooperation in the areas of health, culture, public administration, professional training, education, environment, sports, statistics and agriculture.

Brazil was the first country in the world to recognise Angola's independence, proclaimed on November 11, 1975, by then President António Agostinho Neto. AFL/AL/ADR/NIC
