Luanda - Angola's ambassador to Kenya, Sianga Abílio, reiterated Thursday in Nairobi his country's willingness to continue actively participating in efforts to pacify the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Speaking at the opening of the 35th Meeting of the Technical Support Committee of the Regional Supervisory Mechanism of the Framework Agreement for Peace, the diplomat said, Angola, among other reasons, considers this to be a determining factor for the pacification of the Great Lakes region in general.

Sianga Abílio summarized the actions carried out by Angola over the last six months and highlighted the role of President João Lourenço as the African Union's champion for peace and reconciliation in Africa.

The diplomat highlighted Angola's efforts in the quest for peace in the east of the DRC and for rapprochement between the leaderships of that country and Rwanda.

The 35th Technical Support Committee Meeting of the Regional Supervisory Mechanism of the Framework Agreement for Peace, Security and Cooperation for the DRC and the Great Lakes Region ends Friday.

The meeting's agenda includes topics such as an assessment of the developments in the region since May 2023, when the last meeting of the Technical Group was held in Bujumbura (Burundi).

The participants will also define proposals for the revitalization of the Framework Agreement for Peace, Security and Cooperation for the DRC and the Great Lakes Region to make its implementation more effective in the quest for peace and preparation for the next summit. VIC/TED/AMP
