Luanda - Angola participates in the third United Nations High Level Conference on Terrorism taking place from June 19 to 23 in New York, United States.

According to a statement issued by the Permanent Mission of Angola to the United Nations, the conference is an opportunity for the international community to renew and develop the current multilateral efforts, harmonize and guide the results for the prevention and fight against terrorism, under the auspices of the United Nations.

Over two days, the Heads of Counter Terrorism Agencies and stakeholders will review the key priorities in the fight against terrorism in light of the four pillars of the UN Global Strategy.

Taking place under the theme "Addressing Terrorism through reinvigorated multilateralism and institutional cooperation", the conference will serve as a starting point for the preparation of the New Agenda for Peace proposed by the Secretary-General in his report on the Common Agenda and for the African Counter-Terrorism Summit scheduled for 2024 in Nigeria.

The conference is part of the activities of the Third Counter-Terrorism Week, a biennial event of Member States and international partners in the fight against terrorism.

For this year, interrelated segments are planned, with some 40 side events.

UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy

The UN General Assembly adopted, by consensus, the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy on September 8, 2006.

The Strategy is a unique global tool to enhance national, regional and international efforts to combat terrorism.

The General Assembly reviews the Strategy every two years, making it a document synchronized with the counter-terrorism priorities of Member States.
