Angola and Russia boost bilateral cooperation

Luanda - The dynamism of relations between Angola and Russia was under analysis on Saturday in Sochi, during a session of political consultations between delegations of the two countries.

The two countries talked about consolidating bilateral ties and exploring issues of common and international interest.

The working meeting between the delegations of the two countries was held at the Centre for African Studies in Sochi, on the sidelines of the First Ministerial Conference of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum.

It was co-chaired by the ministers of Foreign Affairs of Angola, Téte António, and Foreign Affairs of Russia, Sergey Lavrov.

During the meeting, the two delegations aligned their views on the development of relations in key sectors and analysed the commitments made, as well as agreed on the holding of the next Bilateral Joint Commission.

On the occasion, Téte António emphasized that this dialogue is an integral part of the preparation of the 2026 Summit, where the formalization of new agreements and the intensification of specific areas of cooperation are expected.

Angola and Russia wish to speed up the review of obsolete instruments and introduce new agreements that can reflect the current trade and investment needs between the two countries.

He mentioned Angola's intention to improve its legal framework to attract foreign investment, as a way to complement ongoing economic reforms.

He also pointed out the potential of the electricity production sector as a strategic area of cooperation between the two countries.

The parties also discussed collaboration in the mining and agriculture sectors, areas identified as priorities for bilateral cooperation between Angola and Russia. ART/DOJ
