Baku - Angola and Azerbaijan signed, on Tuesday, in Baku, a memorandum of understanding on political consultations that will allow dialogue between the two countries on bilateral, international and regional issues.

The agreement signed on the sidelines of the UN Conference on Climate Change (COP29) was initialled by the secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Esmeralda Mendonça, and the Azerbaijan deputy minister of Foreign Affairs, Faria Rsaev.

On the occasion, Esmeralda Mendonça said that they are very important instruments that will strengthen and expand ties between the two countries.

She highlighted that the signing of the memorandum constitutes a big step, as there are potential countries with which Angola can cooperate and benefit from reciprocal advantages in the most varied areas.

The diplomat said that it is an opportunity for the two nations to work and, together, identify new cooperation areas.

For Esmeralda Mendonça, the parties must commit to its implementation as soon as possible.

She highlighted the invitation addressed to Faria Rsaev to visit Angola and vice-versa, in order to understand the market and identify what interests both countries.

The secretary of State expressed interest in moving forward with the memorandum of the General Cooperation Agreement, which will define the important areas in this field that will provide guidance for cooperation and the interest that the two countries have.

“We hope that, together, we can move towards achieving our objectives, which is the increase in bilateral ties and cooperation”, she added.
