Luanda - The governments of Angola and Algeria continue to take important steps to strengthen economic, political, commercial and diplomatic cooperation, said the Algerian ambassador to Angola, Abbdelhakim Mihoubi, on Thursday.
The diplomat made the statement to the press at the end of an audience granted to him by the Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, to whom he presented his farewell greetings after four and a half years as an ambassador in Angola.
Abbdelhakim Mihoubi said he recognized that the level of cooperation between the two countries was not yet satisfactory, but that there were good prospects for increasing it.
"We want to strengthen relations with the Angolan government to reach the most desirable levels," the diplomat said, after stressing the importance of the historical ties that have always guided the relations of friendship and cooperation between the two nations.
He said that in diplomatic terms, the partners are working to sign agreements in the fields of air transport, trade and industry on a date to be announced.
Cooperative relations
Relations between Angola and Algeria are based on a solid diplomatic, economic and regional cooperation partnership.
Both countries share a history of struggle for independence and have governments focused on promoting sustainable development and strengthening their presence on the African continent.
The respective governments have well-established diplomatic relations and actively participate in the forums of multilateral organizations, most notably the African Union (AU).
Political cooperation often focuses on regional security issues, including efforts to resolve conflicts on the African continent.
Economic cooperation has increased, with a focus on oil and gas, where both countries have large reserves. There are also investment initiatives and partnerships in areas such as infrastructure and trade.
In the context of regional security, both governments have interest in maintaining stability in various regions of Africa, particularly North Africa and sub-Saharan Africa, and cooperate on security issues, including the fight against terrorism and drug trafficking.
In the field of culture and education, there are cultural exchanges between the two countries, including the development of educational programs and student exchanges.
