LUANDA - “The help extended by the Cuban people to our struggle for independence has such an incalculable value, that we don’t know how to pay”.
This was said by Angolan ambassador to Cuba, Maria Cândida Teixeira.
According to a press release from the Angola Embassy to Cuba that reached Angop on Monday, Cândida Teixeira made the statement over the weekend, in Guantánamo province.
The note also says the ambassador was speaking on the occasion of the celebrations of the 45th anniversary of Angola’s independence, during a visit to Guantánamo General Hospital, named after Agostinho Neto, founder of the Angolan nation.
The diplomat recalled the words of late Cuban president, Fidel Castro, according to which his country’s participation in Africa’s liberation struggle was “just the accomplishment of an internationalist duty”.
She also reiterated the gratitude of the Angolan people, “eternally” indebted with their Cuban brothers.
