Luanda - The Inspector General of the State Administration, Ângelo da Veiga Tavares, defended this Tuesday (24) the crucial role of this body, especially in a world where trust in institutions is at stake.
Ângelo da Veiga Tavares made this statement at the 13th meeting of the Steering Committee of the Forum of General Inspections of African States and Similar Institutions, which runs until 25 October, in Djibout.
These institutions, he said, have at the center of their missions the fundamental belief that “no individual or institution is above the law”.
For this reason, he highlighted the importance of new forms of partnerships between the General Inspectorates of African States to overcome current and complex challenges, which can be both within the borders of each State and internationally.
He stressed that these institutions are “the guardians of integrity, the defenders of transparency and the champions of justice”.
In their perspective, their work “is not just a responsibility, but a sacred commitment to the citizens we serve and to the construction of a more just and equitable society”.
Ângelo da Veiga Tavares also highlighted the fact that they are “an unstoppable force in search of truth and united by a common purpose, which is to eradicate corruption, expose injustice and ensure that public resources are used for the common good”.
For this reason, he encouraged those present at this forum to share not only their experiences, but also their aspirations so that the forum can be the catalyst for a new era of responsibility and hope.
Throughout his intervention, he said that he will seek to establish ties with the general inspectorates of the Southern region and the PALOP (Portuguese-speaking countries), in order to join the organization to increase the degree of reach and representation at a continental level.
He also announced the holding, in 2024, of the 9th General Assembly of the organization in the Angolan capital, Luanda.
