Luanda - The mozambican professor of sociology, Elísio Macamo, affirmed, in the city of Basel, Switzerland, that Agostinho Neto was a man who belonged to a golden generation of Africans, since his poetry has principles that can help to assure the values for which he gave his life.
The teacher assigned to the department of Social Sciences of the University of Basel, made these statements, while speaking on the theme "Agostinho Neto and the dream that never ages", a lecture organized by the Embassy of Angola in Switzerland, as part of the celebrations of the Agostinho Neto birth centenary.
In the lecture, moderated by the Angolan university professor, Austin Andrade, the Mozambican academic presented Neto in multiple dimensions, having fed the dream of the Angolans, and not only, and whose vocation and political ascension marked the African continent, thus gaining worldwide recognition.
"Agostinho Neto, like many of his generation, had big dreams, that is why such a dream was destined to surpass him so that his life and example could inspire new generations of Angolans and Africans in the valorization of life", Macamo said.
Elísio Macamo emphasized that Agostinho Neto is of the "golden generation of Africans integrated by men and women who not only gave other Africans a homeland, but also their pride and dignity and laid the foundation for a new history of the continent”.
The Mozambican academic highlighted the centenary of Neto's birth as being "a celebration of the rights to freedom of expression, religion, movement, and everything else that fits the reason why the Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) took up arms to fight against Portuguese colonialism”.
On September 17 it was celebrated 100 years of António Agostinho Neto birthday, Angolan physician, politician and poet who was president of the MPLA (1962-1979) and first President of Angola (1975-1979).
