Luanda - The 4th Edition of the Luanda Biennial will be held in the Angolan capital, this year, at two main times, namely from the 2nd to the 4th of July and from the 12th to the 13th of November, Angola's representative to the African Union (AU), Miguel Bembe, announced on Wednesday, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
According to the diplomat who was presenting the preparations for the also known Pan-African Forum for the Culture of Peace and Non-Violence, the first moment will include, among others, "Intergenerational Dialogue at ministerial level", "Thematic Forums" and "Parallel Events".
He explained that the second moment will be dedicated to the High Level opening ceremony (Heads of State and Government), which will include the presentation of the results of the July 2025 Thematic Forums and the opening of a travelling exhibition highlighting historical achievements and Cultural Agenda - Festival of Cultures.
Miguel Bembe informed that the 4th edition of the Luanda Biennial intends to share the effects regarding the contribution of Africans and people of African descent to the progress of humanity and to enhance the value of African cultural identity, as well as to encourage the pedagogical use of History General of Africa.
Regarding the responsibilities of the event's co-organizers, African Union (AU), United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and Angola government, he said that the continental organization is responsible for coordinating consultation sessions with partners, mobilizing financial resources, selecting young people for the Intergenerational Dialogue and defining a communication strategy.
He added that UNESCO mobilizes international partners and financial resources, participates in setting the communication strategy and organizes periodic consultations with the Scientific Committee and the Government of Angola.
The diplomat explained that, in cooperation with partners, Angola guarantees the logistical and material conditions for holding the event, sends invitations to high-level personalities, organizes the arrival of participants and facilitates the transmission and dissemination of the forum's activities.
On the other hand, Miguel Bembe informed that a consultation meeting between the organizers of the forum took place in Paris, France, in October 2024, during which the Final Report of the 3rd Edition of the Luanda Biennial approved the motto of the 4th Edition and agreed on the modalities regarding the organizational principle of this edition.
"The aforementioned consultation meeting also addressed the issue of financial sustainability of the next editions of the Luanda Biennial, including the financial forecast of the proposal to create the Youth for Peace Prize", he clarified.
He called on Member States and partners to participate massively in the event that aims to promote the culture of peace and non-violence in Africa, as well as to create a global platform for cooperation to prevent violence and promote the importance of conflict in our continent.
The Luanda Biennial was created by decision of the 24th Ordinary Session of the Conference of Heads of State and Government of the AU, held in January 2015, in Addis Ababa, in a joint initiative by Angola, UNESCO and the continental organization.
The 4th edition, scheduled for 2025, has the motto “Honor the Past, Value the Achievements, Build the Africa We Want”, in harmony with the AU theme, “Justice for Africans and people of African descent through reparations”.
