Luanda - The staff of Angolan musician Yuri da Cunha denied rumor that the artist has health problems, allegedly cause by the use of drugs, and claimed that the musician has been target of a smear campaign.
In the last few days, photos and videos of the artist have been shared on social networks, reporting an alleged health problem of the author.
There were even public figures suggesting a solidarity campaign in favor of the author of "Makumba", who, according to his staff, does not use drugs or moving toward dementia.
Reacting to images and videos published on social networks, in which the artist appears weakened, the staff said it is a campaign to "discredit and tarnish Yuri da Cunha".
"This cabal is made up of well-identified individuals, whose sole purpose is to tarnish the good name of artists and other national figures. The target this time was the musician Yuri da Cunha", reads in a post by his staff, published on the page of the artist's Faceboock.
According to his work team, the artist has been experiencing emotional fragility, due to the recent loss of several close family members. He has chosen a new (vegetarian) lifestyle, that is why he presents changes in his physical condition.
They call for an end to what they consider "a strategy devised to bring down one of the best Angolan singers of their generation".
Winner of several national and international trophies, Yuri da Cunha won the Rádio Luanda 2008 award, in the “Kianda do Sucesso” category, for the number of shows held that year and the appreciation of national culture.
In 2004, with the song “Makumba”, he won Top Rádio Luanda, and in 2009 he participated in a tour of the Italian Eros Ramazzotti, by several European countries.
