Luena – The Mozambican writer Paulina Chiziane encouraged, in eastern  Luena, Moxico province, Angola, the promotion of the woman emancipation and empowerment, as long as it respects African cultural reality, in order to raise awareness of African roots.

For the renowned writer, making the most of what African women have is one of the best ways of empowering the gender, by getting to know their past better, understanding their present and envisioning their future.

Paulina Chiziane made the remarks during the "Literary Café", organized by the Muyombo bookshop, which aimed to promote literature and culture among young people.

The writer  defended the need to have "useful role models" in society, as was the case in the past, recalling the emancipation and struggles waged by Queen N'Zinga Mbande, Cleopatra, among others, for the independence of their countries.

Paulina Chiziane believes that the lack of references makes people manipulable, due to the phenomenon of acculturation that is being imposed everywhere.

The traditional King Mwatxissengo Wa Tembo, sovereign of the Cokwe, said that this ethnic group has several tribes such as Luvales, Nganguela, mmundas who, in the past, had an alliance called the "Lunda people".

He recalled that the Cokwe, who live mainly in eastern Angola, in Lunda Sul, Lunda Norte and Moxico, went through a metamorphosis tribulation.

This tribulation, he recalled, consisted of the violation of the rules of kingship by the daughter of King Count Matete, Queen "Lueje Ankonde", which led the other members of the royal family, such as Ndonje and his niece Samaba, to leave and look for other lands to rule and establish their power.

In this this line, the 11th king of the Cokwe line, various tribes were born, with Mwatchiavua leading the Lundas, Nhakatolo the Luvale and Mwaxissengue Wa Tembo for the Cokwe. ISAU/LTY/YD/TED/AMP
