Luanda - The Church of the 7th Day Adventist Mission of Bongo, located in the municipality of Longonjo in the southern Huambo Province, has been classified as National Historical Cultural Heritage, taking into account the need for its preservation for future generations.
The classification results from Executive Decree 161/24, by the Angolan minister of Culture, Filipe Zau, dated 17th July and published in the first series nº 156 of the Official Gazette of August 15th.
In the document, to which ANGOP had access on Tuesday, in Luanda Province, the minister considers Bongo's mission as an important milestone in the process of evangelization and socialization of Angolan communities.
Therefore, he defends the need to preserve it for future generations.
The government official assigns powers to the entities of the State's local administration to take measures for the effective protection and enhancement of heritage, as well as its neighboring area.
The church's missionary society, founded in 1924 by missionary James Delmer Baker, is located 64 kilometers west of the city of Huambo, in the province of the same name.
In Angola, the 7th Day Adventist Church began the project of religious education and expansion of Christian values based on the Bongo mission.
