Luanda- The Luanda Carnival, which had been cancelled for two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic, brought about joy and a colourful scenario to Luanda´s Nova Marginal boulevard, over the last three days, with typical costumes and dances of Angola, having attracted and conquered several foreign tourists.

Moving their feet, their heads or even their whole bodies, the tourists vibrated to the folkloric sounds/dances of semba, dizanda, cabecinha and sambalage, to name some, while applauding the dance style with harmonised rhythm of the dancers from the competing groups.

The visitors were also attracted through the messages presented by each group during the parade and the colourful costumes.

Constant Mothersil, a Haitian tourist, told ANGOP that this was the fourth time he came to the country especially to watch the Carnival.

He said he likes the event, mainly because of the dance, musicality, costumes worn by the groups.

He said he will return next year and will continue to take Angolan culture to the United States, where he lives, because it has a positive message. So, he promised to invite more tourists to attend the Carnival.

Romam Serviz, 15, from France, who came to the country for the first time accompanied by his parents, said he came specifically for the carnival.

He said he liked the organisation and the dances he saw at the Nova Marginal.

On his turn, the Swedish tourist Marcos Alvarrson, who is attending the Carnival for the first time, said that the Luanda Carnival party exceeded his expectations.

He considered it to be a very inviting and attractive revelry, so he will return in 2024, accompanied by other friends.

Angolan citizen resident in the southern Huíla Province, Marcos António, said he came to the capital of the country to experience this revelry more closely, since he usually celebrates it in his homeland.

He also pointed out that there should be a Carnival parade competition among the country´s provinces, in Luanda, so that more foreigners have the curiosity to watch the Carnival outside Luanda and get to know other cultures of the Angolan nation.

Thirteen groups paraded on Monday on the Nova Marginal spot reserved for the display of the competition.

Regarding the prizes, the first place winner of class A will receive

5 million kwanzas, the second 3 million, the third 2 million, the fourth 1.5 million and 1 million for the fifth place.

The results will be made public on Wednesday. In Class A, the last five

position placed groups move down to Class B, while the top five of this category (B) move up to the main category.

Meanwhile, with 14 titles won, the União Mundo da Ilha group holds the title.
