Luanda- Angola wants to overcome the challenges of funding and implementing multimedia programs to make museums more attractive, the deputy director of the National Institute of Cultural Heritage, Emanuel Caboco, said Thursday.
Speaking at the National Meeting on Museums and Museum Routes, Caboco said museums lack a budget, as they depend on the budget allocated to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
Caboco revealed that the museums depend on the fund allocated by the government, which prevents them from making investments such as in multimedia and staff training, among others, underlining that that package of expenses is too high and can't be met with the ministry's financial allocation alone.
According to Caboco the idea is to make museums more attractive for visitors, since they function as school extension centres.
"In Angola we have museums with exhibitions dating back 20 or 30 years, without being renewed. The idea is to associate multimedia content, because today interactivity is a very important process in absorbing the public and allows for the renewal of informative or interactive content without major difficulties,” the official said.
Angola has 15 museums (national, regional or local), with various specialties and specificities. JAM/ART/TED/AMP
