Luanda - Mozambique President, Filipe Nyusi, on Wednesday in Maputo defended the need for his country and Angola to strengthen investment in higher education, particularly in the training of teachers.
Speaking at the central act of the celebrations of 60 years of higher education in both countries, the Mozambican president said that for better qualification of the staff, a continuous training of teachers is needed.
From the Mozambique president’s viewpoint, Angola and Mozambique should not "bet only on the training of oil and gas staff", but it is fundamental to "to invest in other education sectors to have more and better diversification of the economy”.
Filipe Nyusi said these training activities will provide the Mozambican technicians with skills to deal, above all, with the new areas of activity arising from the extractive industry.
The Head of State urged the customs and the Ministry of Economy and Finance staff to master the oil and gas industry business.
Filipe Nyusi announced that the two countries will sign a memorandum in the higher education sector to improve technical and professional quality of teachers and better meet future challenges.
To Filipe Nyusi, the institutions of both countries should work to make the private sector robust and dynamic, highlighting the importance of listening to the difficulties and complaints of the sector.
The celebrations of the 60 years of higher education in Mozambique and Angola, constitute a fundamental occasion for both governments to mobilize the various players of society, national and foreign, to participate in debates on the reforms of the public policy of higher education and the consequent actions.
He said it also promotes the search for feasible proposals to respond to the main challenges, through international, national and regional conferences, virtual events, and other modalities to gather the best of the collective intelligence of the public sphere, which can later be transformed into concrete action plans.
The conference takes place in a hybrid format (face-to-face and online), with presentations of scientific papers being organized in main conferences, parallel sessions and round tables.
