Lobito – Angola’s minister of Education Luísa Grilo Wednesday considered incipient the inclusive education in the country.
The minister said so when speaking to the press on the sidelines of the third Conference on Good Practices in Inclusive Education, held in Lobito, coastal Benguela province.
The minister said the event is intended to speed up the inclusive education and exchange of experiences in school management to improve and consolidate what has already been done.
Asked about the accessibility of students with disabilities, Luísa Grilo acknowledged failures, both on the part of her ministry and that of Public Works, when implementing the projects of the Integrated Intervention Plan for Municipalities (PIIM).
According to the minister, in some provinces the inclusion of students with disability was not taken into account during the construction of schools, due to the lack of the necessary knowledge on this matter.
On the other hand, she added, her Ministry was not able to engage in a timely dialogue with its partner to address these needs.
To overcome this constraint, the minister said that the situation is being corrected, with the introduction of ramps in schools, to facilitate the mobility of students with wheelchairs.
