Talatona - The Ministry of Higher Education, Technology and Innovation is working with a focus on overcoming the illegalities and irregularities registered in some universities in the current academic year 2022/2023, said Tuesday in Luanda Province the incumbent minister Maria do Rosário Sambo.
She was speaking at the end of the meeting she had with managers of private higher education institutions in Angola, where they addressed aspects related to the preparation of the 2023/2024 academic year and analysed the monitoring period carried out by the institution.
The minister stated that matters related to the cancellation of enrolments of unduly admitted students and the process to prevent institutions to hold enrolments for the next years should serve as preventive actions for the upcoming academic year.
The government official said the ministry does not have record of private higher education institutions operating outside the law.
"We always emphasise the need to verify the situation of illegality to be reported by means of a complaint", he said.
She said that the institutions closed in the previous years are those that did not meet the requirements regarding the functioning to be made official and were closed compulsorily.
According to her, based on the supervision made to the institutions, the result is that they are all authorised to operate, adding that there are irregularities and illegalities in some public and private institutions.
The chairman of the Association of Private Education Institutions in Angola (AIESPA), José António Fazenda, said that the meeting demonstrates their dedication and of the ministry in the promotion and development of higher education in Angola.
He said that AIESPA's challenges for the next academic year are centered on improving physical and pedagogical structures and, above all, on the quality of teachers. MAG//MRA/jmc
