Luanda – The Angolan Embassy in Qatar, on Tuesday, offered some books written by António Agostinho Neto to this country's national library with the aim of publicizing his legacy and achievements.
The donation (English translations) also includes books by the Angolan writer Ana Maria de Oliveira also translated into English.
According to a press release from the embassy to which ANGOP had access, the delivery of the literary works was made by ambassador António Coelho Ramos da Cruz.
The act was part of the celebrations of September 17th, National Hero’s Day, a public holiday in Angola in tribute to the Nation’s founder, the late António Agostinho Neto, who’d have turned 102 years of age this Tuesday.
The event took place during an audience granted by the Minister of State and director of the National Library of Qatar, Hamad Bin Abdelaziz Al Kuwari, to the Angolan ambassador, followed by a guided tour of the institution's facilities, with the presence of diplomats and other employees of the Angolan embassy in that West Asian country.
António Agostinho Neto was born on September 17, 1922, in Kaxicane village, municipality of Icolo e Bengo, Province of Luanda.
He proclaimed the independence of Angola on November 11, 1975, becoming President of Angola until his death, on September 10, 1979.
