São Vicente– The 8th national conference on science and technology, bringing together Angolan and foreign researchers, will take place between 30 November and 1 December of the current year, announced on Thursday, in Mindelo, Cabo Verde, the minister of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Maria do Rosário Sambo.

Speaking to the press on the sidelines of the 1st International Congress on “Lusophone 's Science, Innovation and Development”, Maria do Rosário Sambo said she hopes that Cabo Verde will have an active participation in the event, bringing investigative work that brings extra value from the researchers' contribution to the resolution of social problems.

On the other hand, the official said that the ministry will support universities that intend to promote the second edition of the International Congress on “Lusophone's Science, Innovation and Development”.

She hopes that Angolan universities embrace the challenge launched by the Vice-President of Angola, Esperança da Costa, during the opening of the 1st International Congress on “Lusophone 's Science, Innovation and Development”, so that the second edition can take place in Luanda.

Regarding the congress, she made it known that the works presented demonstrate the results of investigations, the results of which can have a positive impact on people's lives.

Maria do Rosário Sambo clarified that people often get the idea that research has to be guided towards solving a specific problem, as in the case of applied research.

She reinforced that with fundamental research, it often works as an observation and explanation of phenomena that can, even in the future, as with science, allow the development of applied research, such as what is currently known in genetics.

The minister highlighted the importance of Angola's participation in the event, which made almost 50% of the communications in round tables and in different panels.

The meeting allowed, she continued, the interaction of Angolan researchers with colleagues from other Portuguese-speaking countries (Brazil, Portugal, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique, São Tomé and Príncipe and Cabo Verde), allowing the creation of contacts network.

On the fringes of the congress, the minister visited several educational institutions, with emphasis on the Technical University of the Atlantic, owner of the Institute of Nautical Sciences, Engineering and Marine Sciences. This institution has been collaborating with the University of Namibe to prepare a plan of action aimed at overcoming some problems regarding to courses linked to nautical sciences.

The 1st International Congress on “Lusophone's Science, Innovation and Development”, which began on Wednesday, is scheduled to end this Friday, with the presentation of the Mindelo Declaration.
