Soyo - Fishing activity on the sea coast of the municipality of Soyo, Zaire province, is suspended from November 21 to December 11 this year, to facilitate the installation of 4D seismic equipment.
According to a note from the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources, to which ANGOP had access this Friday, the equipment will be installed in the maritime area located 170 km southwest of the municipality of Soyo.
The statement explains that the suspension also covers the area located 250 km northwest of Luanda, where 10 long cables of 2,600 meters each will be installed, in the Girassol, Jasmim, Dália and Rosa oil fields (Block 17).
This activity, the press release also says, will be confined to the rectangle of 54 km long and 20 wide, at the central coordinates latitude 7º 10 05' S, longitude 11º 11 49' E, corresponding to an approximate area of 1,080 km.
The document stresses that to ensure the safety and effectiveness of operations, the fishing sector asks that the minimum distance of 4 km be maintained, avoiding the area of operation.
'The towed equipment is quite solid and can cause damage to vessels or fishing equipment that are on the perimeter,' the statement said.
It also requests that fishermen identify and respect the buoys and other signs that demarcate the work area, stressing that each seismic cable has, at its end, a yellow buoy equipped with a white flashing signaling light, in addition to a radar refractor.
