Luanda – Angola’s Oil Firm Sonangol said that it has signed an agreement with South Korean company Hyunday Sambo Heavy Industry (HSHI) to build two oil tankers, as part of a process of renewal of its fleet.
The 158,000 gross tones vessels, with capacity to carry about one million barrels of crude oil, will reinforce the international fleet of Sonangol, currently restricted to nine ships.
In its newspaper “Pacaça”, reached Angop, Sonangol announced the delivery of the first ship for the first quarter of 2023, while the second vessel will be handed over in the following quarter of the same year.
The renewal of the oil fleet is based on the acquisition of the transport fleet of the Suezmax line, with 20 year lifespan.
Sonangol seal the maintenance of a shipping business that guarantees the delivery of the oil to the requested destination by the buyers without any necessity to resort to the chartering of the third parties.
