Seoul - Angolan state oil company Sonangol has clarified that the new ship it has purchased will only be used to transport crude oil, not its by-products, since the company will no longer charter ships to transport crude oil by-products, the company’s CEO João Almeida said Sunday in Seoul, South Korea.

Almeida said the new oil tanker will increase the company’s fleet that is to have now a total of 10 ships, and that by the end of the year another one will be added to this number, which is currently being built by the Hyundai Sambo Heavy Industries.

"It is an oil tanker that meets Sonangol's transport needs and is in line with the best quality of oil tankers to sail in the world's waters or oceans", he said.

Almeida stressed that the oil tanker with an average lifespan of 20 years has the capacity to transport one million crude oil barrels, increasing Sonangol's transport capacity to better meet the needs of the market.

The company’s CEO explained that there was no partnership with an American company, but rather with a Swedish one, in terms of commercial management, with 50 percent each.

The Sonangol CEO added that the Angolan company is the ship's commercial manager, providing services not only in terms of shipping to the Sonangol group, but to all companies at an international level.

Sonangol is an Angolan oil company founded in 1976.
