Quipungo – Three hundred hectares have been reserved by the authorities of the municipality of Quipungo, in Huíla province, where the local photovoltaic power plant will be installed, with a capacity to produce 150 megawatts of energy.

Located in the Calueyo area, on the outskirts of the municipal headquarters, the area was visited by technicians from the Ministry of Energy and Water and the company Masdar of the United Arab Emirates, contracted for this purpose.

The implementation of the solar panel installation project, which will take place within days, will benefit more than 250,000 families in the provinces of Huíla and Namibe, 90,000 of whom are inhabitants of Quipungo.

Speaking about the implementation of the respective social project, the director of renewable energy and rural electrification of the responsible ministry, Serafim da Silveira, without advancing the budget, considered that after the completion of the work, Huíla and Namibe will have two clean energy production plants.

In turn, the manager of the Masdar company in Angola, Francisco Augusto, said that the space found favors and soon the machines for cleaning and installation of solar panels will arrive.

The deputy municipal administrator for technical services and community services in Quipungo, Filipe Cayango, said that the central implementation of photovoltaic in the district is an important step for the industrialization of the municipality.

With a territorial area of 5,675 square kilometers, the municipality of Quipungo has an estimated population of 215,000, 196 inhabitants and is 120 kilometers east of Lubango. JT/MS/DOJ
