Luena – A total of 86,000 families in the eastern region of the country could be beneficiaries of the "Agricultural Value Chains Project", underway in the country, which aims to enhance agriculture.
The project financed by the African Development Bank aims to improve productivity and increase production in this region of the country, according to the general director of the National Seed Service, Augusto Caetano da Silva.
Speaking at a consultation meeting on the project with development partners and representatives of the agricultural sector, he said that the program has several components, which are based on the creation of a network for the production of seeds, fertilizers and the revitalization of agricultural mechanization.
With the prospect of being implemented in 2025, he said that the project also foresees the rehabilitation of irrigation channels, as well as boosting the different sectors that participate in the production chain, in the provinces of Moxico, Lunda-Sul, Lunda-Norte and Cuando-Cubango.
He specified that the province of Moxico will have 26 thousand beneficiaries, in 7 out of the 9 municipalities in the region, with cassava, rice, beans and wheat being the main crops covered in the project.
On the occasion, the director of the Provincial Agriculture Office, Maia Sandjesse, highlighted the importance of the project, which could contribute to the production process.
Farmer César Amândio, who focuses on the production of corn, beans, soybeans and sweet potatoes, was willing to embrace the project, mentioning its implementation, very soon, to stimulate the national economy.
