Doha - Angola's agricultural potential is being exhibited at Expo/2023 in Doha, the Qatar capital, with a view to showing the strengths of this sector and seeking the best solutions for more effective economic diversification in the country, said the Angolan commissioner-general for the event, Albina Assis.
Talking about the Angolan pavilion to a delegation from the Angolan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIA) made up of national and foreign businesspeople from various sectors, Albina Assis said the country aims to export agricultural products to Qatar in the future.
Angola's participation in Expo/2023, the Angolan official aims at attracting Qatari investors to Angola, hence the presence of the CCIA and the business community in Doha to discuss ways to cooperate with the Qatari business community.
According to the Expo commissioner, the Angolan pavilion has attracted many visitors probably due to the content being displayed in Portuguese and English, which makes it easier to understand and learn about the country, such as its programmes, especially in the agricultural field.
Albina Assis said the country is showing its progression from traditional agriculture based essentially on family production to the modern agriculture on display at the fair.
Since its inauguration on November 14, the pavilion has received more than 4,200 visitors, a figure considered satisfactory by the Angolan delegation to the event, taking into account that Qatar has an estimated population of 2.6 million people.
The chairperson of the Angolan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Vicente Soares, said the exhibition represents an opportunity for local and foreign businesspeople to get to know Angola's potential without travelling to the country.
In his message welcoming the guests, Angolan president João Lourenço, wrote: "The history of humanity has recorded challenges and opportunities throughout the ages. This is also true today. Our planet continues to experience rapid population growth, challenging us to more robust and inclusive economic growth," considering that sustainable growth is one of the main challenges of the current generation.
For the Angolan Head of State, the International Horticulture Exhibition - Expo 2023 Doha is an excellent opportunity to assess the state of the art and look to the global future based on "modern agriculture, technology, innovation and sustainability".
The Angolan president said the country remains firmly committed to sustained economic growth and measures to combat desertification and the effects of drought in the south of the country.
"The theme of our pavilion is 'Planting for Life', as a motto for us to continue preparing the land and sowing the seeds of a sustainable future, so that future generations can reap its fruits with confidence in a better world," João Lourenço said.
