Luanda - The minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges, announced on Tuesday, in Luanda, the construction of a new photovoltaic energy park, with a production capacity of 500 megawatts, as part of the energy transition underway in Angola.

Speaking to the press - in the ambit of the message on the State of the Nation, to be addressed by the President of the Republic – minister João Baptista Borges, who did not specify the kick off period or the location where the project would be built, said that the country is definitely committed to renewable solutions, exemplifying the investments made in the Benguela parks, one of the largest in sub-Saharan Africa in terms of solar energy.

He recalled that, by 2027, Angola plans to cover 50% of the population in terms of electricity distribution, which means access to this asset for 16 million people.

“We are working towards this, not only in the areas of interconnection with the existing network, but also with photovoltaic solutions that will enable the electrification of 56 locations in the East and 60 in the South”, he clarified.
