IX Consultative Council of Ministry of Mineral Resources calls for rigour in government's national plans

Cuito - The participants in the IX Consultative Council of the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas (MIREMPET) recommended the need for strict compliance with the actions from in the National Development Plan (PDN) and Sustainable Development Plan (PDS) 2023-2027.

The recommendation is set out in the final communiqué from the meeting, which took place from the 23rd to the 24th of this month in the city of Cuito, Bié Province.

It follows the in-depth approach to essential and current issues in the Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas sector, debated in plenary sessions divided into information panels and technical sessions on value chain development.

According to the participants' points of view, it is essential to implement the actions set out in the PDN and PDS 2023-2027 with rigour and within the estimated timeframes, in order to guarantee the achievement of the objectives set for the development of the sector, which is essential for making the country's economy increasingly robust.

Participants were also treated to a presentation of the projects of the sector's operating companies, which reiterated the oil sector's contribution to the diversification of the national economy and the country's sustainable development, including the main actions underway and prospects.

Closing the event, the secretary of State for Oil and Gas, José Alexandre Barroso, made a positive assessment of the council as to him it enable to present the actions developed in the previous and current term, as well as to plan future actions.

He also said that it had made it possible to present business opportunities and that it had therefore drawn the attention of businesspeople and entrepreneurs, especially the private sector, to respond to them.

The Consultative Council, which brought together more than 300 delegates and took place under the motto “Fostering the value chain of mineral resources, oil and gas for economic diversification and sustainable development”, was preceded on the first day by the 9th MIREMPET methodological meeting.

The event, led by the minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, Diamantino Azevedo, and witnessed by the governor of Bié province, Pereira Alfredo, analysed issues related to the procedures for granting mining rights and exporting mineral resources and the process of transferring competences, as well as presenting the mining registry and the current state of implementation of mining projects in Bié province.

It also served to listen to the concerns of the Provincial Offices for Economic and Integrated Development.

The Ministry of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas is the auxiliary ministerial department of the head of the state and is responsible for developing and monitoring the Government's policy on geological and mineral activities, oil, gas and biofuels.

Its activities include prospecting, exploration, development and production of minerals, crude oil and gas, refining, petrochemicals, storage, distribution and marketing of mineral and oil products, as well as the production and marketing of biofuels, without prejudice to environmental protection.
