Luanda - The Programme for the Informal Economy Reconversion (PREI) has enabled young people, families and other segments of the Angolan population to develop business and increase the monetary volume of their own trade.

PREI is part of the integrated strategy to fight hunger and poverty adopted by the Angolan Government, led by João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço, in its five years of governance.

This government programme is included in the National Development Plan (PDN- 2018-2022), with the objective of promoting the transition from the informal to the formal economy throughout the country.

PREI is also an important strategy, as it has allowed the Angolan population to develop businesses, with greater and better prospects for success.

In this regard, some Angolans, with the art of selling, due to the Programme for Reconversion of the Informal Economy took the opportunity to create micro and small businesses, a fact that has allowed the opening and creation of opportunities for access to micro-credit.

The programme has already formalised 56,200 micro and small enterprises and cooperatives in 18 provinces of Angola from the major urban centres, communes and even the far-flung parts of the country.

Some families across the country, who have already formalised their business, have become more sustainable and productive, as they have improved their quality of life and make their regular tax contribution in order to develop Angola.

Benjamim Paulo, a locksmith by profession, formalised his business in 2021, enlarged his machinery and created two more jobs posts.

“The country has a market for this art and profession, the only thing I lacked was the means, which were provided by microcredit. Now we produce roulottes, wheelbarrows, among others”, said the beneficiary.
