Luanda - The Luanda Railway (CFL) on Thursday started operating the express passenger train at the route Bungo Station, in the city centre, to António Agostinho Neto International Airport (AIAAN) located in Icolo e Bengo municipality.
The first train left at 4am and the second two hours later carried some heads of companies working in the new airport's operating system, as well as members of the CFL.
Speaking to ANGOP, the CFL spokesman Augusto Osório explained that three routes had already been made, one of which is an inter-station service, with stops at Musseques, Viana and Baia stations, and the same in the opposite direction.
The other two are fast services with just one stop, at Viana Station.
‘We're doing to launching the service and, of course, we're going to improve it,’ he said, looking forward to the influx of passengers from Sunday onwards for this service, the prices of which are set at 1,350 kwanzas for the inter-station train and 5,000 for the express train.
He emphasized that the aim is also to serve workers from institutions linked to the operation of the airport, when they travel between the city and their place of work and vice versa.
The train will start operating along with the start of domestic passenger flights at the new airport scheduled for Sunday, with the Luanda/Cabinda route, and has the capacity to carry 700 passengers each time, of the 12 scheduled daily (six outbound and the same number return), totaling 8,400 people/day.
