Luanda - The express passenger train from Bungo Station to Dr. António Agostinho Neto International Airport (AIAAN) will start this Thursday, the 7th, with 12 trips per day, on a route of about 52 kilometers.

According to the chairman of the Board of Directors of CFL, Manuel Kandakanda, the respective train, which starts operating as part of the start of the operation of domestic passenger flights from Luanda to Cabinda, on the 10th of this month, has the capacity to carry 700 passengers on each frequency, totaling 8,400 people/day.

Speaking to the press, as part of the visit of the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, to the works of the Bungo/AIAAN railway line and the Airport/Zango 5 road section, the CEO said that the railway line is prepared for the circular train with a maximum speed of 120 km/h, but, initially, the speed to the airport will be 50 km/h,  at the most critical points, and 90 km/h in areas without constraints.

He said that these distances will be covered in about an hour, while the works in progress along the railway last, a time that will be reduced to 45 minutes, when the works are completed and the points of 'conflict' on this route are finished.

In addition to connecting the new airport, through the express train, the CFL allows the circulation of long-distance trains, which depart from Musseques Station (Tunga Ngo neighborhood) to Malanje and vice versa, as well as a medium-distance train, which leaves from Musseques Station to Cuanza-Norte, specifically in Luinha, a town that has the train as the only means of transport, according to Manuel Kandakanda.

In addition, this line also allows the circulation of regular suburban passenger trains, which make the route from Bungo Station/Vila de Viana.

The visit of the President of the Republic to this railway line comes five months after his last finding, carried out last June, as part of the entry into operation of passenger flights at Dr. António Agostinho Neto International Airport (AIAAN), scheduled for the 10th of this month, with the transport of passengers from Luanda to Cabinda and vice versa.

During the visit of João Lourenço, who was on board the express train, it was also found that there were piles of garbage and puddles of water along some points of the railway line, an action caused by citizens who live in the vicinity of the CFL and vendors who insist on selling various products on the railway section.

After traveling the approximately 52 kilometers by train, which leaves Bungo at 9:35 am, the Head of State disembarked at the AIAAN Station, at 10:50 am, and also went to check the works on the Airport/Zango 5 road section, where he ended his visit. QCB/DOJ
