Ramiros – A Fish Reproduction Centre located at Barra do Cuanza commune, Belas municipality, 75 kilometres off Luanda City’s downtown, is expected to start operation in July with an installed capacity of an annual 52 tonnes of fish output, the administrator of the district, Miguel de Almeida, said Monday.
The fish reproduction centre, whose construction works have already been concluded, was built as part of the Integrated Local Development and Fight against Poverty Programme (PIDLCP) and it is to sell different kinds of fish.
"The project is in its final phase. We are in a period of production experimentation of various species, which will be produced. We believe that within the next few days we’’ll begin reproduction", Almeida said.
Mr. Almeida underscored the importance of the centre due to the extensive maritime coast where it is located and the fishing activity of the area, stressing that this will also help many disadvantaged families and boost local fishing.
ANGOP has learnt that the project has been receiving already various types of fish with emphasis on Tilapia, Catfish and Corvine.
Juvenile fish take at least six months to be ready for consumption, the project aims to create jobs and improve the diet of the residents of the communal headquarters and surroundings.
In 2021, the municipality of Belas executed 32 projects linked to the support to ex-military and disadvantaged families, providing them with kits to start the first business, rehabilitation of roads, schools roadways, basic professional training and motorcycles for the creation of motorcycle-taxi cooperatives as part of the projects to fight poverty.
The Municipality of Belas, which has a population of more than 700,000 inhabitants, includes the Barrra do Cuanza commune and several districts.
