Cabinda - The northern Cabinda province refinery starts production early 2022, after the completion of the first phase, announced the executive director of the National Fuel Society of Angola (Sonangol) Joaquim Fernando.
The construction project for the Cabinda refinery is estimated at USD 920 million, in a joint investment between Sonangol (10%) and the Emerging Markets Investment and Trade Group (Gemcorp).
Sonangol and Gemcorp will invest, in the first phase of the project, USD 220 million.
The amount will be earmarked for services that include deforestation, earthworks, demining and fencing on the 313 hectares that it will occupy in the Malembo plain.
In a brief meeting with the governor of Cabinda, Marcos Nhunga, and the members of the Management Council of the Cabinda Refinery, Joaquim Fernandes said that the start of production in 2022 reflects the results already achieved in the project's construction zone.
From 10 February 2020 to 19 August 2020 3, some 150,100 square meters of suspected and contaminated square meters were cleared, with operation worth 53.5 million kwanzas.
