Luanda - The National Bank of Angola (BNA) and the main importers and distributors of foodstuffs met Friday in Luanda to analyse price inflation of the products that make up the basic food basket, based on supply and demand on the domestic market.
The event, which was held behind closed doors, was led by the governor of the BNA, José de Lima Massano, who, along with the economic operators, reviewed the main causes of the rise in prices, justified by the international context, aggravated by the Covid-19 pandemic and climate issues.
The national production, which still does not meet the demand, despite the various initiatives underway, was another subject evaluated in this auscultation meeting that brought together the main stakeholders linked to the import and distribution of products, including Angoalisar, Ecodima, Max, Shoprite, Newaco, Leonor Carrinho, Candando, Anseba, in a total of 22 companies.
The deputy governor of the National Bank of Angola, Tiago Dias, said that there had been a certain "rigidity" in the behaviour of prices in the economy, substantially influenced by the food and non-alcoholic beverages categories.
