Luanda - The World Bank said it has 3.4 billion US dollars available for development projects in Angola, the institution’s representative for São Tomé and Príncipe and Angola Juan Carlos Alvarez said Monday in Luanda.

Speaking to the press at the launch ceremony of the Public Procurement internship program for projects financed by the World Bank, Alvarez said the institution has 12 regional projects in education, health, social protection, energy and water and budget support.

The World Bank representative added that the 12 regional projects began in 2021 to date and that they are being implemented satisfactorily.

"The 12 projects have an implementation life of five years and disbursement is happening little by little," Alvarez said, underlining the need to strengthen institutional capacity by the project implementation teams and sharing knowledge between ministries to better implement the projects.

Alvarez underscored that the internship program will help improve the implementation of the World Bank projects, whose aim is to benefit Angolans.

The program aims to increase the number of Angolan cadres trained in public procurement, secure greater speed and implementation of the projects financed by the World Bank, reduce expenditure on hiring public procurement specialists and improve the quality of procurement processes.

The two-year paid internships will have a theoretical and practical component.

The two-year, non-renewable internships were developed in collaboration with the National Public Procurement Service and the National School of Administration and Public Policy (ENAPP). ASS/AC/AMP
