Caxito - Bengo provincial government approved on Wednesday a Strategic Plan for Guaranteeing Food and Nutritional Security, which aims to increase the production and productivity of goats, poultry, vegetables and fruit trees through the adoption of practices and techniques that provide high yields.

Valued at around 635.7 Kwanzas, the plan is aligned with the program to promote agricultural and livestock production, and aims to ensure sustainable and inclusive economic diversification led by the private sector.

Presenting the 7th Ordinary Session of the provincial government, the director of the Provincial Office for Agriculture, Farm and Fisheries, Faustino Ngonga, said the plan will be implemented in the province's six municipalities.

The initiative will benefit a total of 18,000 vulnerable families, of which 12,000 will be focused on the promotion of goats and poultry, and 6,000 on the development of horticulture and fruit growing.

For goat farming, each family will receive two females and one male, while for fruit farming they will receive between four and five fruit seedlings, depending on the space available.

The director added that the distribution of poultry will be preceded by training, the creation of infrastructure (paddocks made from local materials) and the preparation of reception conditions.

The implementation of this program aims to reduce the lack of animal protein and plant vitamins in people's diets, improve diet and food and nutritional security, contribute to the fight against hunger and poverty and increase the quality of life and income of families.

The 7th ordinary session of the provincial government was chaired by the provincial governor of Bengo, Maria Antónia Nelumba. FS/IF/TED/AMP
