Luanda – National Land Transport Agency (ANTT) wants greater compliance with the Presidential Decree n.º 155/20 which prohibits the import of used light vehicles, with a maximum manufacturing time of five years, said the institution’s spokesperson Pires Bumba.
Since April of this year, until the present date, six hundred vehicles have entered the country, with more than five years of use (light) and more than eight years (heavy), which shows, according to the official, who spoke to ANGOP, the need to observe the law, to avoid greater issues.
“There are many citizens who continue to import used cars that are more than five years old. Angolan law demands that only light used cars with a maximum of five years, and heavy ones, with a limit of eight years from the date of manufacture, should be imported”, he stressed.
Pires Bumba explains that no vehicle can be imported without first being approved by ANTT, in accordance with Presidential Decree No. 155/20.
He said that many non-compliant importers pay heavy fines and, in other cases, the cars are returned to the countries of origin, because importing used cars, without observing the law, represents a danger to road safety itself.
Presidential Decree No. 155/20, in force since June 1, 2020, establishes time limits for the import of motor vehicles, such as used light vehicles, with a maximum of five years, counting from the date of first registered registration of its manufacture or use.
Used heavy vehicles have, in the decree, a maximum limit of eight years, while used motorcycles, a maximum of three years, also counted from the date of the first registration, of its manufacture or use. JAM/AC/CF
