Negage - The minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Carmen do Sacramento Neto, announced Thursday in the municipality of Negage, northern Province of Uíge, the forecast for the country to produce, by 2027, 80k tons of tilapia.
Back In 2022, Angola produced 2k tons of tilapia, below the 10k in 2023, said the official, at the end of a visit to the fish farming center of the Province of Uíge, located in the village of Cangulo (Negage), in a area of 20 hectares.
According to the minister, this is a plan that the Ministry will include, this year, in its projects portfolio, which was preceded by some studies, aimed at increasing fish production.
She explained that the installation of fish farming centers centers will increase the fish catching capacity, as well as contributing to reaching the target of 80k tons by 2027.
The official added that the future larviculture center will have a lab to help study other species and improve the species to be cultivated.
The governor considered the province of Uíge the Angola's largest tilapia producer.
The region produced, from January to May this year, 5,863 tons of fish of different species, in a total of 3,820 tanks.
Regarding the ban on horse mackerel fishing for two months, the government official said that it aims to protect reproduction, adding that there are political conditions for carrying out the process.
In turn, the Governor of Uíge, José Carvalho da Rocha, promised to continue supporting fish producers, to increase production, as well as generate employment, create family income, sustain the populations, as well as develop the province's growth.
During her stay in the municipality of Negage, the minister, who has been working in Uíge since Wednesday, delivered a fishing vessel with a motor, vests, thread, buoys, food and salt to the Cangula village association.
