Angola participates in 7th maritime administrations conference in Tanzania

Luanda - Angola participated from November 29th to December 1st, in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, in the 7th Conference and General Assembly of the Association of African Maritime Administrations (AAMA), part of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the Port Management Association of Eastern & Southern Africa (PMAESA).

According to a press release from the Port of Luanda, Angola was represented by a delegation led by the administration of the National Maritime Agency (AMN) and by representatives of the Association of Ports of Angola (APANG) and port companies from Luanda, Namibe and Cabinda provinces.

The meeting assessed topics of great relevance to the sector, with emphasis on the decarbonization of international maritime transport, capacity development, sustainable financing of maritime transport in Africa, as well as training for future challenges in the maritime area.

On the sidelines of the event, which took place under the theme “Navigating the Future of Africa's Maritime Sector: Collaborating on Technology and Innovation to enhance Safety, Security, Trade and Marine Environment for a Sustainable Future” a fair was held to showcase products from the port sector.

At the aforementioned fair, Angola was marked by the presence of a stand from the Cabinda Port company, which was attended by the Angolan ambassador to the Republic of Tanzania, Sandro Renato de Oliveira.

On the occasion, the chairman of the Board of Directors of the Port of Luanda, Alberto Bengue, reaffirmed the need to equip an institution with technologies aligned with digitalization for the efficiency of the sector.

The CEO of the Port of Cabinda, José Kuvingua, highlighted the crucial role of decarbonization and the importance of women in the port sector.

On the other hand, he reinforced the need for greater inclusion of women in the sector and the training of staff for the sustainable development of maritime transport.

In turn, the Prime Minister of Tanzania, Doto Mashaka Biteko, reaffirmed the commitment to African maritime administrations to lead initiatives that expand Africa's participation in global trade, aligning with the objectives of the African Union's Agenda 2063 and promoting the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

Doto Biteki highlighted the advances in the port of Dar es Salaam (Tanzania), as it is 99% modernized, allowing access for post-Panamax vessels.
