Angola and US sign cooperation agreement on geological research

Talatona- A memorandum of understanding, which provides for the exploration of copper ores, was signed on Thursday in the Province of Luanda by representatives of the Geological Institute of Angola (IGEO) and the US company, United States Geological Survey (USGS), on the sidelines of the 2nd International Conference and Exhibition on the Mining Sector.

The territory to be explored is part of the region known as the Central African Copper Belt (Copperbelt) located in several provinces of the Republic of Zambia and around a third of it is in Angola, in a vast territory that stretches between the provinces of Moxico and Cuando Cubango, whose feasibility study has made it possible to ascertain significant economic benefits for the country.

The agreement signed by the US ambassador to Angola, Tulinabo S. Mushingi, in the area of Geological Research (USGS) and the CEO of the Geological Institute of Angola (IGEO), José Manuel, will also make it possible to map Angola 's mineral resources.

According to Tulinabo S. Mushingi, who was speaking to the press at the meeting, the intention is to turn Angola into a supplier of resources for the world's energy transition.

He hopes that the detection of mineral resources will bring greater attraction for investment, diversification of American partners in various sectors and benefits that will guarantee an improvement in the living conditions of the Angolan and American people.

Asked about the forthcoming inauguration of Angola's largest kimberlite, he said that as partners it represents a step towards attracting investment and improving people's living conditions.

In the same day, three other memorandums of understanding were also signed between Angola's National Agency for Mineral Resources (ANRM) and the Canadian mining company Ivanhoe Group, in which the Chairman of ANRM, Jacinto Rocha, and the Chairman of Ivanhoe Group, Ms Marna Cloete, signed the memorandums, which cover diamond exploration.

Participating in the 2nd edition of the Angola International Mining Conference and Exhibition (AMC) on the theme "Mineral Resources, Development, Sustainability and Challenges, are representatives from seven countries, a list of 60 speakers sharing knowledge, providing information on current and future trends in the mining industry with the participation of 600 technicians.

Topics such as "Angola's Vision for the Sustainable Development of Mineral Resources", a session that will reveal Angola's stance on the development of mineral resources and its dedication to revitalising the mining sector, with the aim of promoting stability and transparency to instil confidence in international investors, are part of the debates as well.

Another topic to be addressed is the "Current state of mining in Angola", which will feature the views of the co-President and Director of Lipari Diamond Mines Ltd, Luiz Bizzi and the general manager of the exploring company Minbos Resources Limited and HM Granitos, Asareh Monsoori.
