Luanda - Customs services in Angola continue to focus on updating of the working tools to facilitate international trade and illicit control of goods, the institution’s manager said Friday.

Jerónimo Cambalanganja was speaking ahead of the International Customs Day, celebrated on 27 January.

He said the means made available on this day enable to inspect goods, whose deadlines could vary depending on the type of means imported and exported, as well as their quantity.

The manager said that currently the customs services of the General Tax Administration (AGT) provides online services that rapidly enable to conduct the import and export procedure of various goods.

He also said that today the average time for goods inspection at terminals is up to three hours.

“The current resources and equipment for conducting this procedure  and control of customs are satisfactory, but there is the need for and permanent updating in view of the challenges that the countries are facing for the facilitation of trade versus control”, the official said.

As for working tools, Jerónimo Cambalanganja said that the “Asycuda World” system is one of the most used that allows the clearance of goods in advance.

The Asycuda World system facilitates the simplification of customs procedures, the completion of the processing of documents, including payments before the arrival of the goods on Angolan territory.

The International Customs Day is celebrated under the motto “Nurturing the next generation: promoting a culture of knowledge sharing and professional pride”.

Angola joined the World Customs Organisation (WCO) in 1989, through the resolution Nº 9/89, of 8 April, with a view to  implementing the organisation´s programme to facilitate legitimate trade, maximise revenue collection and protect society.
