Luanda - Angolan sailors João Artur and Felipe André represent the country, from the 10th to the 20th of this month, at the International Laser Class Association (ILCA) 7 World Sailing Championship, taking place in the Netherlands, to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

The two Angolan sportsmen, who are already in the Netherlands, but still in the preparation phase, have been working on adapting to the local sea, wind and swell, in sessions experimenting with various techniques, such as starts and turns, in addition to movement.

According to the vice-president of the Angolan Nautical Sports Federation for sailing, Nuno Gomes, who is part of the delegation, speaking to ANGOP, the group will start this Wednesday working with the English coach Jon Emmett.

He informed that the aim is to provide competitive experience to the sailors so that they can obtain endurance to dispute the title of African champion, in December, in Egypt.

This sporting event gathers more than 100 competitors and is held every four years, in-between the holding of each Olympic Games.

Manuel Lelo is the first sailor to represent Angola in the event that took place in Spain in the 2017 edition.

The defending champion is the French Jean-Bpatiste Bernaz, who won the competition held in Mexico.
