Luanda - The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, directed to the Paralympic Committee to send to his cabinet the project of construction of the Multipurpose Centre, conceived more than 15 years ago.
The project of the mentioned Centre has not yet been put into effect due to the lack of a land for the construction of the infrastructure.
This information was provided by the president of the Angolan Paralympics Committee, Leonel da Rocha Pinto, after the meeting Thursday between the Head of State and sports institutions, in which it was recommended, among others, the creation of strategies for the profitability of sports infrastructures.
He said that the orientation opens up good prospects, since the lack of a Multipurpose Centre is jeopardising the achievements to date in African and World Championships and Paralympic Games.
Such results, according to Leonel Pinto, were possible with the use of training centres in other countries, while Angola can bet on building a facility of this kind.
At the meeting, also attended by the Minister of State for Social Affairs, Carolina Cerqueira, the president of the Angolan Olympic Committee, Gustavo da Conceição, said that national sport has limitations that prevent it from doing better.
He pointed out the weak training of staff due to the importance given to the subject of physical education and school sports, and that the latter should serve as support to the associative movement.
He stressed that physical education should be a compulsory subject, and that a serious programme of teacher training in this area should be designed, so that school sports are strengthened and university sports gain importance in the national sports system.
On the other hand, Gustavo da Conceição defended the creation of a Court of Arbitration for Sports so that the sector's problems could find solutions through its own body, and cited the example of federations that have not yet concluded their respective electoral processes due to litigation.
